It's Friday and today is the official unveiling of my brand-spankin'-new website and blog! I chose the new title, Rachel is Writing, as a bit of a commitment to myself to be writing. Ironically enough I started creating this new project during a bout of writer's block and I figured maybe changing up my writing space was what I needed to keep this ball rolling. Plus, Squarespace definitely impressed me with this super slick theme so even if my ramblings are incoherent I at least know they look good.
Onto the fixations for this week!
Happy Vernal Equinox!
Spring is here! This year I started exploring more pantheist/humanistic pagan spiritual leanings and I'm finding that celebrating the seasons helps to remind me of the cyclical nature of life in general. Seasons, mental struggles, and the ginger candies in my desk drawer don't last forever so I am reminding myself to embrace the change.
Some things I am doing to celebrate this weekend include sculpting more bad ass Goddess votive/incense holders. I made one for the winter solstice of the Norse winter and hunting Goddess, Skaoi. This weekend I'm tackling a spring-oriented deity to craft for this holiday. Look out for a DIY on these babies soon.
My other holiday plans include taking my dog out for longer walks, breathing in a lot of springy air, and cleaning out my closet to purge some of my old junk and start fresh for the season.
Mat & Nat
Following along with the theme of spring changes I updated my handbag this week. I was still in love with my grey MCM bucket bag but wanted something pastel for spring and summer. I found out about the Montreal-born vegan accessories brand, Mat & Nat, and decided to give their products a try. I found the small 'Jorja' bag on Amazon in a gorgeous champagne tinted pink.
What I love most about this bag is the fact that it converts from a shoulder to a cross-body strap and that its shape holds my planner, iPad, and everything else without looking lumpy. I'm not a vegan but Mat & Nat is doing a good job at convincing me that leather is not always superior.
Essex Restaurant & Broad City Trivia
This past Sunday my girlfriend and I realized we were both beasts when it comes to TV show trivia. We found out about Broad City trivia after pursuing the weekly free Time Out New York and after signing up online we spent the whole week prior binge watching the show.
We had the best time and ended up making second place by 2 points to a team of 5. Yas. Kween. We won free drink tickets for Essex Restaurant where the trivia was held and plan on using them this weekend. Kudos to Trivia AD for some difficult Trey-related pube quotes, we will be back, possibly for Buffy night.
That's all for now, folks. Stay tuned because this is happening.
